Whenever there's a big-time American auteur invited to preside over the jury of the prestigious Cannes Film Festival pundits like to guess which films might tickle their fancy. This year those awards will be handed out by a jury that is headed by the Coen Brothers. What cinephiles and film curios pay closest attention to are the films vying for awards. But all of that noise and flashiness is out-of-competition. This year the already critically-approved Mad Max: Fury Road will officially debut, along with both Pixar and Woody Allen's newest offerings ( Inside Out and Irrational Man, respectively). Granted the films that grace the Croisette are generally more artistic and exploratory than your standard "summer movie"-but programmers never shy away from the opportunity to show upcoming Hollywood fare. International celebrities annually flock to the biggest, grandest red carpet by the French Riviera-where deals are made, cameras flash, and write-ups on the applause and boos from within the theaters are quickly written up-all this will kick off again on Wednesday, May 13th.

So did Electra and Murphy.As summer movies keep creeping earlier and earlier in April (ahem, Furious 7), the Cannes Film Festival is maybe the only big cinema experience that marks the beginning of actual movie summer. In an odd way I think we loved each other, and that memory will die with us. At least until she says: “You live with fear” and “Secrets make you darker.” Now and again I feel identified with both of them. She is a sociopathic cunt who believes in love… quite an explosive combo.
He is a self called misunderstood genius, badly rewarded by society. So if you are expecting a light love comedy, you must just quit and directly go to hallmark). (The one who warns doesn´t betray, if you are about to watch Love you must know that is directed by the same director of Irreversible and I stand alone.
Probably the film will not have a positive reception just because people think movies are supposed to be role models, but not actually rough visions of the world. It must be said, the photo in this film is a true work of art, the lightning is amazing.Īpparently self-referential, the movie hints at the Murphy law (everything that can go wrong will go wrong), the Electra complex and the current fucked up concept of love (the movie starts with a shitty couple situation and the hole time you can see in frame a colorful acrylic mockup of a building crowned with the word “love”). Who hasn’t been overwhelmed by this sense? Not quite understanding love (or not wanting to understand it or commit it) but feeling it in an outrageous deep commotion. I wouldn’t consider it a “work of art” just because of the nudity,but I think it portrays reality very well, showing actual sex between actual characters who are confused in the thought of love. While watching the movie I couldn´t avoid a blue feeling, remembering former relationships, specially my last one which had many similarities as with the plot of the movie.Įxtremely sex-explicit, the movie doesn’t look pornographic to me. Quoting Noe Gaspar “I felt that 3D would allow the viewer a greater sense of identification with the lead character and his nostalgic state”, I have to say that particularly in my case he fully accomplished that. But, the strongest feeling goes to Electra, a strong and delicate character rather psychotic, tender, filled with explicit drugs abuse and self destructive references. That´s my first though after 40 seconds of Gaspar Noe’s newest film Love, even though I completely identify myself with attitudes that the other main character -Murphy- has.
